Are Coterie diapers worth it? 6-Week Newborn Test

While I was pregnant with my third daughter after a 6-year gap, I was excited to get my hands on products that are new to the market, as well as products I probably would have never tried before with my older two. With my older daughters, I went with the most well-known brand, Huggies, and they worked well with no complaints. They were affordable and a reliable brand I had seen my mother use for decades. But I never used to think about sustainability nor the use of clean ingredients while using Huggies. When my older two were in diapers I just bought what I knew would work. But now that I am thinking more about quality not only with performance, but also with ingredients, I wanted to do something different for my third daughter. Coterie diapers claim to be a ‘faster-wicking and more absorbent diaper with cleaner, more sustainable ingredients’ and are some of the most highly-rated on the market. Are they worth the price?

THE TEST: How Much Can It Hold?

I applied for the affiliate program at Coterie  and was approved! But just because I received some diapers from the company didn’t mean I was going to automatically give it a top recommendation. I put the diapers to the test. I grabbed a newborn diaper and tested the absorbency. I started off with a little water, but by the end of the test I had poured the whole water bottle into the diaper. Almost as soon as the water was poured in, the diaper absorbed to liquid, and even a smush test or turning the diaper upside down didn’t cause leakage. But there’s only a few things that can be tested prior to the actual baby wearing the diaper. So after the safe arrival of my sweet baby girl, I used the Coterie diapers for the next 6 weeks.

After 6 weeks: Would I continue?

Short answer? Yes! My daughter is now 5 months old and has been using Coterie off and on from birth until now (depending on whether I have any or have run out). Not a single diaper rash, and I have peace of mind that the ingredients in her diaper are safe for her health.

Now, let’s talk about blow outs. She’s blown out in a Coterie, but she’s also blown out in other brands. I really don’t think there is a way to avoid blow outs 100% because once there’s enough force in the right angle, these babies with blow out any diaper! But the absorbence is still strong and I feel secure to leave a pee diaper on her through the night so as not to disturb her with repeat overnight diaper changes. In fact, she started sleeping through the night at 3 months! So many factors go into this, but having a comfortable diaper on at night definitely helps.

Is it worth the price? That really is a subjective answer depending on your budget. If you’re having to choose between Coterie and your basic family essentials, definitely Coterie would not be affordable for you. But if you are willing to invest or even splurge on a reliable diaper, Coterie a great way to go! Using my 20% off coupon will help out a bit!
