5 Amazing Features of the Lila Laborwear Hijabi-Friendly Labor & Delivery Gown
Having a baby is such a special experience and being able to feel comfortable in what you are wearing during the process is critical. One of the concerns I had going into the delivery of the my third daughter was how comfortable I would be in the hospital’s standard gown. I also wanted to wear something to commemorate the arrival of my third baby that made me feel special. As a hijabi, sometimes finding modest clothes for hospital stays is very difficult, and can sometimes be so dysfunctional that we discard the hijab completely while at the hospital for medical purposes.
I was blown away when I found that a brand I was already admiring for their beautiful luxury labor and delivery gowns had dropped a new hijabi-friendly modest dress in their collection. Lila Laborwear’s concern for inclusivity with this design is noteworthy - they understand that women should be free to wear anything they want, and experience labor and birth in whichever way makes them most comfortable. Lila’s mission is “to provide thoughtful products to aid the journey into motherhood while recognizing the humanity, diversity, and beauty of their customers.”
The Nadia gown was perfect - I wore it to the hospital on the day my daughter was born as well as after having my daughter as my going-home outfit (see my post on IG!). I also dressed my daughter in the matching swaddle and hat that is sold separately, both in the color ‘Plum’;. If you’d like to shop at Lila, use code “HAKEEMAH” for 10% off any order at Lila Maternity, whether it’s the Nadia modest gown or any other mom or baby products in their collection! Here are 5 of the innovative features I particularly loved:
1) Front Zippers:
The Nadia gown is full coverage, but has various design features that allow for easy access for medical staff as well as the mother herself. The gown has two zippers in the front that are great for easy nursing access and to place monitors on the belly while laboring.
2) Fully-buttoned Sleeves:
There are also buttons that line the sleeves from shoulder to write to give access to IVs. I also found it useful to be able to open the shoulder to nurse and to make wudu for prayers prior to having the baby.
3) Back Zippers
The back the gown also has two zippers, and gives full access if you’ve elected to have an epidural.
4) Open bottom with ties
The gown opens at the bottom in a wrap style and fully opens from the waist down if needed. It also closes with ties so you can wear it outside without it flying open, or style with leggings or a skirt.
5) Matching Hijab
Lila also designed a matching hijab for the Nadia gown, so this accommodates hijab-wearing women, as well as women who don’t practice hijab, but want to remain covered It even has a flap on the hijab that you can pull up to put over your nose and mouth for a niqab or a mask.
Lila not only makes postpartum and labor clothing pieces. But they also make newborn clothing to match their gowns, such as the super cute baby swaddle and hat I dressed my daugher in to match mommy! This set is made of high quality, stretchy, butter-soft material - we’re still using them three months later!
I would highly recommend the Nadia gown to any woman who wants to maintain a level of modest coverage while at the hospital or even during at-home care, while still being able to access parts of her body for care to be administered. Thank you Lila for accommodating women of all walks of life with your inclusive line of hospital gowns!
